Decision Day

     My initial impression of both the programs was that they were both very intimidating. They both have a lot of options in order to make your film or magazine very detail oriented in order to grab the reader/audiences’ attention and to get the message across. I was more blown away after having gotten the chance to use both programs because the lengths these programs allow you to go is incredible and perfect for the person using those programs to construct their video or magazine to their heart’s desire. And with the help of these programs, “Stories have power, and the stories we tell today do just as much to try to explain our world as did the myths of so long ago,” (Source 1). This quote states that these programs are going to help give the designer the power to bring their video or magazine to life and touch the heart of the person watching/reading it. 

Starting off with InDesign, this program was very complex and very intimidating at first glance. There seems to be no limits when it comes to this program. This program can help with delivering the final product for my portfolio with the attention to detail this program will allow me to build from. These types of programs are perfect when you have a basic idea of what you want to film or write about in your portfolio. And that is because InDesign allows you to clip, edit, add effects, all these things that with a basic idea of what you want to do is only going to lead to a better project/story. “Stories make us more empathetic and able to understand the thoughts and feelings of others,” (Source 1).  

Moving on to Premier Pro, I too was intimidated by this program and it reminded me of photoshop. The similarities were uncanny to the little tabs on the sides of the screen with the different options, though they still have plenty of differences to set them apart. For example, in photoshop you’re unable to write a magazine but able to edit a photo while in Premier Pro you can do both. Anyways, this program is very complex and intricate when it comes to the little mechanics you can use to build your magazine. “Literary magazines have never faced so much adversity, yet they have also never had so many opportunities to grow,” (Source 2) This states that because of the situation with literary magazines in the world, there is only room to grow and to create magazines that are surely to get the attention of the people. 

Now that I have taken the time and experimented with both programs, the Premier Pro and InDesign, I have come to a decision on which option I’m going to go through with for my portfolio project. I have chosen to go with Premier Pro and do the magazine for my portfolio project. This program was a lot easier for me to use and understand how everything works and the concept of this project excited me more than the film. My mind was basically made up after having done the magazine and film blogs. But now that I got the chance to see and experiment with the different programs I’ll be needing, the magazine is the right option for me.
